Who owns the rights to the photos?
Bella Baby owns all image rights. Once an image is shared on our social media, photographers are welcome to repost it using Instagram’s repost feature to share on their own profiles. To ensure consistency and protect client privacy, images should not be shared or posted outside of what Bella Baby has published, and work created while photographing for Bella Baby is not permitted for use in personal portfolios.
Can I keep my personal photography business while working for Bella Baby?
Yes! Photographers can continue personal work outside of Bella Baby, just not in hospitals where we’re contracted. While working, photographers are expected to represent Bella Baby exclusively and should not promote personal services or distribute personal business materials, as families may be eligible for Bella Life sessions. Photographers interested in continuing to work with families are encouraged to become certified Bella Life Photographers and grow their skills within the company.
Do I need prior experience with babies?
Prior experience with babies is not required, but a willingness to learn how to safely pick up and handle newborns is essential.
Do I need to know how to use manual mode?
Manual mode is preferred, but not required to start in all locations. We provide training to help you learn and build confidence.
Do I need studio lighting knowledge?
These are lifestyle photos taken using natural light in the hospital room. On occasion, photographers may use an external speedlight if the room is darker. Other lighting gear is typically not used.
Where do photoshoots take place?
Sessions take place in the family’s hospital room during the baby’s first few days. On special occasions, such as when a baby is preparing to graduate from the NICU, photographers may also provide sessions in the NICU prior to discharge.
What is "Joy" and what does it mean for photographers?
Bella Baby is part of the Joy Family of brands. Most of our packages include a membership to the Joy Parenting Club, a digital support platform designed for new parents. Through the app, families have 24/7 access to parenting experts via text or chat, along with resources for ages 0–5, a feeding and diaper tracker, and the ability to download their baby’s photos.
This membership is included in most hospital packages to ensure families leave their session with ongoing support as they begin life with their newborn and continue to grow as a family.
Who handles fulfillment?
Bella Baby’s customer service team handles all print and product fulfillment, so photographers can focus on capturing images and supporting families.
What is the hiring process?
We typically conduct a short pre-interview, followed by a Zoom interview. If selected, onboarding and training usually take about 2–3 weeks.
Can I do weekend-only or weekday-only schedules?
We ask that all photographers be available for at least one weekday and one weekend day. Weekend-only or weekday-only schedules aren’t available.
Recommended schedule: two weekday shifts and one weekend shift per week.
What do you consider a weekday versus a weekend?
Bella Baby uses the following schedule:
Weekdays: Monday through Friday
Weekends: Saturday and Sunday
